CITY KIDS 2006-2009 is a documentary photo archive of adolescent’s coming-of-age in NYC on the brink of the millennium.
8,000 frames and created exclusively on film ( medium format and 35mm,) Schuster’s photographs offer an unfiltered lens into the lives of teenagers growing up during the pivotal years of post 9/11 New York City.
In 2006-2009 Smart phones and social media haven’t taken over.
CITY KIDS is a time capsule of this niche-historical period in youth culture, media, technology, and American identity.
Throughout four intense years, photographer Stephen K. Schuster closely followed a group of adolescents during their high school years-weaving a photo narrative of New York kids experiencing the city on their own terms.
